What is a Mobile Marketing Manager?

A Mobile Marketer is responsible for multi-channel, digital marketing strategies aimed at reaching a target audience on their smartphones, tablets, and/or other mobile devices, via websites, email, SMS and MMS, social media, and apps. Here's some more information on these approaches: 

  • SMS or Text Marketing - where  SMS stands for “short message service,” which allows the technology to transmit short text messages such as “buy one get one free.”
  • Mobile Web - Such as banner advertising or other advertising on webpages that display on the mobile phone
  • MMS - where MMS stands for “multi-media message service,” which is basically a text message that includes video, audio, or other content
  • Mobile Applications - This includes placing ads within an app
  • PPC - Where PPC here refers to “pay per call,” which is mobile phone advertising that includes a call to action to use a cell phone to call a number placed in an ad
  • Banner Advertising - banner ads are increasingly on your phone.
  • Location-Based Marketing - location-based marketing uses cellphone GPS to track your location. The benefit of advertising is that software can be programmed to send banners or other advertising to consumers when they are local to your product or service  
  • Barcodes - barcodes and Quick Response (QR) barcodes allow the user to find more information about a product or service either at a physical location or digitally. QR codes were old technology but have now become a lot more prevalent post COVID-19 pandemic in 2020
  • Games - Mobile advertising takes place in mobile games now, too.

    The Mobile Marketing Manager must understand all of the marketing trends and advertising techniques in the mobile phone market and how they interact. They must be extremely comfortable with these channels, along with understanding the analytics behind user engagement. It’s a challenging, fast-paced role but one thing is certain – we’re going to need more of these talented producers in the future.

    As a Mobile Marketing Manager we expect you to be proficient in running multiple campaigns and analytics to track and prove the results of your efforts. We require that you understand the technicalities and nuances of mobile marketing. 

    Mobile Marketing Manager Requirements 

    • Strong understanding of the complex set of consumer behaviors 
    • Experience in some of or ideally a large amount of mobile marketing specific channels such as SMS or Text Marketing, Mobile Web, MMS, Mobile Applications, PPC, Banner Advertising, Location-Based Marketing, Barcodes - barcodes and Quick Response (QR), Games advertising 
    • Strategic development of mobile marketing channel strategy
    • Strong broad marketing experience ideally in a similar field 
    • Review current mobile marketing strategy  
    • Plan and implement a process of mobile specific strategy development 
    • Design and implement marketing strategies aligned with business targets over the medium to long term 
    • Develop specific digital campaigns to increase web traffic
    • Analyse sales and marketing metrics in relation to mobile marketing
    • Forecast market trends in mobile marketing 
    • Research the market to identify new opportunities for mobile marketing 
    • Generate innovative ideas to promote our brand and our products with mobile channels 
    • Address advertising needs in mobile channels 
    • Customer research to ensure strategic marketing development
    • Liaise with internal teams and ensure brand consistency
    • Establish strategies that will enable us to establish a strong, long-term digital presence 

    Requirements and skills

    • Proven work experience within Mobile Marketing or in a similar field in marketing
    • Strong understanding of the mobile marketing space or challenges it faces as change is constant 
    • Demonstrable experience with marketing campaigns and digital technologies (e.g. online tools and social media)
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant CRM software and Content Management Systems
    • Familiarity and understanding of digital channels 
    • Understanding of digital channels and how these might change over time
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Team management skills
    • Likely a BSc degree in Marketing or a relevant field
    • Strong data analysis experience to review data performance 
    • Attention to detail 
    • Strong leadership skills in order to improve internal focus and commitment to projects
