Marketing Salaries & Digital Salaries

Salaries are an incredibly important part of decision making, decisions to hire, decisions to move jobs. They are not the only reason to move but they often form a significant impetus in part of the process.

How we gather information on salaries

  • As a data-driven business as part of our sign-up process for candidates are asked a number of questions, one of which is their current salary which is collected anonymously.
  • When companies post jobs on our platform we collect data on salaries anonymously.

These two methods allow us to collect robust information on salaries.

How to use information on salaries

These salary bandings are guides for you to understand salaries as a general rule of thumb. There will be exceptions to the salary information provided here.

Salary conversations at interview:

  • Give your number - where possible give the number you require for a job
  • Provide a range - if unsure most candidates would consider a range and you can use this as an option
  • Offers - when presented with an offer try and understand how it has been derived
  • Salary range - try and understand the salary range for the job and how your experience ranks
  • Overall package - consider the impact of the overall package, salary is only one factor

When considering competing offers look past the headline figure. Use this really useful take home pay calculator that will help you asses the difference in your take home pay at the end of the month. Moving to a business with a higher salary might be attractive, but if it is a small difference in gross salary then you might notice that after tax the difference is marginal.

How do salaries vary by company size?

On average this is what we see from a salary perspective on the size of a business. These generalisations and there will always be expectations to the rules:

  • Larger companies will pay 5-10% higher than smaller business
  • Small to medium sized businesses will vary and there are less clear trends
  • Some small to medium sized businesses pay very well compared to averages

Gender pay gap

We are still collecting data to provide more information and informed views on the Gender Pay Gap.

We see from our data that women on average set their financial expectations in regards to their salary approximately 10% lower than men.
